For a little hippy nostalgia you couldn’t ask for better than Sami Sunchild’s Red Victorian Bed & Breakfast, Peaceful World Center & Cafe in Haight-Ashbury. Still going strong 45 years after the Summer of Love. Nice food too. But it was Sami's take on how to be an entrepreneur that struck us most, and reminded me of so many photographers! Heather spotted it on the wall next to our lunch table (click here for full size). And if you think being an entrepreneur is easy, read this. All you need is love. And perseverance. Cheers, Ian Here's Grace, Janis and Jimmi for ya. To View More >>
We sincerely apologise to those of you that have been affected by the current errors occuring when designing Flushmount albums in Photojunction. For those of you that wish to have a full bleed image on the page after a translucent title you will be encountering an error that stops you from proceeding. We are aware of the problem and are working on a solution in Photojunction. In the meantime we have two options for getting around this issue: • Either drop the image onto the layout and physically drag the image to the edges or; • Instead of selecting the title option, leave a note in the special To View More >>
When we arrived in San Francisco I was amazed by the number of homeless people on the streets. They weren't threatening, they were just there. Most people ignore them, and I did too. But not always. Like it was their problem to fix. Silicon Valley is the seat of innovation in the world, with arguably some of the best design companies and schools, and the richest companies. What an audacious challenge To View More >>
We love quality materials, and quality workmanship, and we have the deepest respect for the people behind them. So when we came across the Hermès travelling Festival des Metiers (Festival of Crafts) we spared a moment to touch the leather hides and watch the leather craftsman at work. What blew us away, though, was the silk-screening demonstration. As I'm sure it does To View More >>
Yesterday's visits took us into the heart of first Ideo, then Google and Survey Monkey. All of them amazingly impressive with much to teach us about how you get to be the best in the world and create environments that foster creativity. We spend a lot of time at work, and with the people there. The better we can make work, the better our lives, but it's got harder since the financial meltdown. But Google sort of borrowed my breath, so to speak. The sheer magnitude: 16,000 people on the campus we visited. Hardly any looking older than 16, though they assured us the age range is extensive.
