perception is reality, any person who runs a successful business understands how to use this to their advantage. The only way you could possibly make a thousand dollars work would be not to edit or spend any money on marketing. Not really possible is it!

there are soooo many good photographers now, not just ok ones, it will definitely come down to marketing and perception, the successful will be very talented and have a knack for self promotion ... not that that's ever been different ... what is different now is the ever increasing pool of photographers who can really shoot ... prediction; the A list will always exist and it'll be crumbs for the others just like it is for singers and painters etc

It would be interesting to know what profit (i.e. take-home pay) results from a $1k shoot and to work out the hourly remuneration; it would then be easy to compare with other lines of similarly skilled or technical work to make a fairer comparison.
