I don't like long posts, and I'm always at Ian and Nigel to keep 'em brief so I apologize. This recent post prompted Ken to comment and me to respond with this, my longest ever... Ken asked whether our industry's main challenge wasn't "crap photography" but competitors with stupid pricing, for example, "2 photographers, hi-res images and Queensberry with 60 images for £1500." Ken suggested that people like that shouldn't last in business but they keep coming back... So I presume that if in fact they're surviving, they're probably a high volume, low margin outfit - possibly with healthy post-event To View More >>

My interview with Rod Ellmore talked about how the close partnership between photographers and vendors in the '70s and '80s helped build some great careers, but it wasn't all positive. One disadvantage was that marketing gimmicks picked up at seminars organised by the vendors propagated like viruses! Like this one - the notorious "couple in the brandy glass". It seems a long way from Brian Dorsey's TriBeCa studio to a pumpkin field in New Jersey, but then his clients have commissioned him for events everywhere from Anguilla to Acapulco, and Quebec to Rio. What caught our eye about this very striking album was how Brian had reflected his client's tastes in it. Cindy and Eric were married in October, and the bride's favourite colour is orange – so think Halloween and harvest time, pumpkins, trees changing colour with the Fall... and all matched harmoniously with the striking autumnal cover image, the matching leather binding, the chocolate-on-ivory To View More >>

This impeccably shot and designed album nearly got away from us. We didn't photograph it before we shipped it, and we were too late contacting the studio before they sent it to their clients! But it's too beautiful not to show you as much as we can, which fortunately includes a slide show of the album. We love its natural, restrained good taste – professional wedding photography at its best, and typical of the consistently good work Geoff White sends us. Liz and Adam choose Meadowood, St. Helena, in California's wine country as the location for their destination wedding on May 19th last year. To View More >>

If you haven't been to the Photojunction website or blog lately, you won't recognise them. What's going on? Well, the old PJ site had to go, for several reasons. • Danny was embarrassed by it (me too). • PJ has changed so fast that a lot of the support info was out of date. • There's a bit of misinformation out there (I'll get to that). • And it's high time we came out of the closet… So here's the story: In case you don't know, Photojunction is a Queensberry project. It dates back ten years to when we first realised that any album supplier without a software solution was history (we To View More >>
