I was invited to join the NZ Government's Better by Design US Study Tour 2012, a four day tour of the San Francisco Bay Area where "up to 25 New Zealand business leaders are exposed to best practice examples of international design thinking". The tour began officially last night over dinner at the Town Hall Restaurant, but mine began a week ago when Ian and I arrived in SF for some much-needed down time. Relax, re-energise, and No Work was our mantra. But paradoxically, when we're travelling or on holiday my brain goes into overdrive. Our email list goes back well over a decade. A scary thought when you think about it! People could have been shooting film when they signed up … or still at High School. Mac OSX and Win XP could have been in the future, let alone Facebook and Twitter! (On the other hand there'll be people on it who signed up for Photojunction only yesterday, but in order to design albums from Brand X.) The fact is we've been changing just as much as the world has, but I'll bet many people won't know about the Queensberry Press, for example, or Musée, or our Apple® connection. Rugby World Cup fever is gripping New Zealand at the moment, which ties in nicely with my topic (sort of). Twenty teams are here to be beaten by the mighty All Blacks. (Go you good things!) We have had an influx of press book orders over the last few months and nearly everybody has been over the moon about them. However not everyone has had the same warm fuzzy feeling. Why? Often it's the nature of the product itself. Press To View More >>

Everyone has a story to tell, and for decades our business has been about crafting those stories into beautiful albums to remember forever. But the way we do so has been changing dramatically. Earlier this year we released Musée “for people who want only the best” – beautiful photography, discerning design and the best materials in a product that requires the highest level of artisanship to produce. Our latest project takes us into another world again. Instead of traditional photographic printing, the Queensberry Press uses digital offset technology to create – not beautiful albums, but To View More >>

Made By Hand from Queensberry on Vimeo. Want to see what goes into making a Queensberry? We commissioned this brief movie as a way to say thank you to all the terrific people who make our albums … and who make us so proud. Johannes shot the images as he and I walked through the Queensberry Lab and Bindery one afternoon. The photography is all real and unstaged. Johannes created the video and set it to music by Amy Seeley, who has a lot of new fans. Thanks again to everyone involved, including the host of Queensberry photographers whose work you can glimpse along the way. Cheers, Ian PS If you To View More >>
