Although a lot of you love our albums (us too!) we operate on the simple principle that you're running a business, and if you can't make money selling them you shouldn't buy them. But there's no doubt many photographers do struggle. Partly that's because they sell a la carte, and have persuaded themselves that their clients don't want albums. I don't buy it. A la carte is often shorthand for having a cheap headline price, and no levers you can pull to make a better sale. (I'm not saying a la carte's a bad idea, but it needs close thought). As for people not wanting albums, it was the same story To View More >>
Are you about to be married, or just married? Congratulations! My own wedding day went by so fast, it was only when I saw the photos that I realised how much I'd missed. For some of us I think photography seems like just another item to check off our planning list, but what a difference a day makes! I was so glad I had a good photographer, and beautiful images I could be proud of. Queensberry Bride is dedicated to you, your wedding and especially your wedding photography. We have great advice about choosing a photographer, and links to our photographer directory if you're still undecided. We want To View More >>
Ian likes to talk about the good old days, when colour correction and colour management were a matter of picking up the phone and complaining to the lab. OK … I remember them too. Well, you can still outsource colour correction, but colour management is a shared responsibility now. In my earlier post I talk about screen calibration and soft-proofing, which most of us at least know about - but few people understand that taking all the care in the world over those won't be enough if your working environment is wrong. Try this experiment. First thing in the morning, sit down at your desk (where To View More >>
I'm often told that brides do all their research online and communicate with photographers only by email. And that it's normal to book a photographer based on such minimal interaction: "Stephen it's no use. They just want a price. It's all about the deal, so I just give them one and hope." I don't believe it. Or at least, I don't believe it's the only possibility. I wasn't going to start these posts this way, but maybe a simple response to this challenge is useful, something you can use immediately. Anyway, here's how I would reply. Rewrite it in your own words of course, but I hope it helps engage To View More >>
Want to make the Workspace Image Gallery even more powerful for Events with lots of images (eg weddings)? If that's a Yes, check out an optional feature called image categories, which you can switch on in Basic Settings. Here's how they work. The normal way to organise images in your events is using collections. Collections work a bit like iTunes playlists, in that images can be in more than one collection (eg album selection and favourites as well as Nan's). On the other hand images can only be in one Category (eg Ceremony or Family Groups, but not both). You use Categories to divide your images To View More >>
