Have you noticed our finely polished "tech tips" get less Likes than the other posts? :( So I thought I'd just remind you that us tech support staff are real people too. I went to our nation's capital over the weekend as a bit of a family outing. I didn't go to look at parliament buildings. Boring, in fact I didn't even see them in the distance. I went to the Weta Cave, where Weta Workshop is based and where they made the props for Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings, Hobbit etc. I have to be honest, I nearly had a nerdgasm. Not only because of the artistic ability of the teams who do this work To View More >>

If there really are 3.5 trillion photos, which are the important ones? The ones that get picked, printed and presented. Presented in a magazine, a book, a frame, an album. But who does the picking? If it's social photography and the photographer's doing the choosing, which images will make the cut? The perfect shots. The ones that tell the story. The ones that fit in the book. Spot the difference? Yes, one photo's new, one's old. One's in colour, but they're both gold. Rivers of gold! Sure, the new gold is data, but like the old gold it's hard to mine. They reckon perhaps 3,500,000,000,000 photos have been taken in human history, and maybe 3,500,000,000 of those in the last twelve months. Even the people who took them know that most of them are crap! Digging for gold in that lot is like panning for gold in that river. Tough work and hardly anyone's going to do it. Want to do your photos a favour? Pick the best ones (one in ten? a hundred?) and delete the rest. Don't To View More >>
