I am writing this while wearing my studio owner's hat.
We received this email today:
Hi,
I am looking to buy a queensberry album 15x15, black leather with names embossed on the front. I think you can only buy these albums through photographers and I was wondering if you sell them?

This email confirms two things for us
That (1) amongst the general public there is an awareness/recognition of, and a demand for, the Queensberry brand, and (2) that Queensberry are not selling direct to the public.
Both of these things validate our choice of Queensberry as our album supplier.
Enough said

Thinking out loud: is it possible to suggest a code of conduct whereby, for example, a photographer should only supply albums to his own clients, thereby making it in the interests of the photographer to charge a proper price, rather than make a quick buck from a wedding he/she didn't shoot?

Will Queensberry's aim to build their brand amongst brides not turn the brand into a commodity? At the National Wedding Show (London) in October 2009 there was a photographer with a big sign 'cheapest GraphiStudio albums here' (or words to that effect). I think he also might have been offering to 'price match' as well.
It would be such a shame if that started to happen with Queensberry albums.
What's stopping Johannes prospect emailing around other photographers to see who does the cheapest 15x15 black leather album with embossed cover? In her mind, it's the album she wants and it doesn't matter who she gets it from, because Queensberry have done a good job of making their albums desirable.
Obviously we can't be complacent and we should always be thinking of unique and original ways to make ourselves stand out. But I have a niggling feeling that what Queensberry thought would help us out will actually work against us.
What do you think?
