Well in excess of 2000 aftershocks later, the region I live in still has no idea when the shaking will stop. [caption id="attachment_9611" align="alignnone" width="333" caption="I arrived at the bride's mum's house, and they had a big crack in their drive that went ..."][/caption] On September 4, 2010, Christchurch (New Zealand) was rudely awoken (4:35am) by a rather large Earthquake (magnitude 7.1 on the Richter scale). The energy released in that one shake is still way in excess of the sum of the energy released by all of the aftershocks, even though many have been over 4 and several To View More >>
Turns out there's a certain stigma attached to the word 'free'. Take a conversation I overheard this morning. A photographer was talking about how they really like the look of Photojunction but was avoiding downloading because, quote, "Although it says free, nothing is ever free." This conversation reminded me of a post Ian wrote about this time last year titled, "F.r.e.e". In light of this morning's conversation, I thought I'd resurrect part of it which explains why we give Photojunction away free, and why there's no catch... So… why? What’s the catch? I just got back from a seminar by one of Australia's best seminar presenters. For all his professionalism and preparedness, his Dell laptop wouldn't recognise the USB microphone he was recommending. A simple problem, but he couldn't fix it and neither could the audio tech who was recording the presentation. And before you Apple fan boys start chortling, the audio geek was recording the event on a Mac using the latest version of Logic Pro, and he told me he was having problems with that too. What happened? The presenter demonstrated with $25 Logitech headset instead, and we moved on. I flew home To View More >>
What is a Dumbo Feather? It is the thing that somebody believes in that allows them to achieve their dreams, or maybe overcome their fears. Dumbo (think the elephant with big ears) believed that it was a very special feather that gave him the ability to fly, and when he lost the feather he became a flightless elephant. With extensive counselling and a few kind words he realised that it was in fact his large ears that were responsible for his 'winged' prowess. We are often the Dumbo Feather to our clients. They believe that we are responsible for making them photogenic ... sure we have our friend, To View More >>
Manpreet Sokhi’s album of Dilip and Anchel’s South Indian Hindu wedding made waves through Queensberry. Talia Neal of our design team worked on the striking photofront cover and it triggered a flood of memories in her. The cover symbol is a representation of Ganesha, the Hindu elephant deity whose influence extends even beyond Hinduism and India. The memories evoked were of Talia's time in Nepal as a teenager working for Sir Edmund Hillary's Himalayan Trust – memories rubbed raw by the recent passing of Sir Ed, who with Sherpa Tensing Norgay first climbed Mount Everest in 1953.
