More from Mark Miller: Press books - I agree with everything you say. At Focus I had a great conversation with Danny who suggested that 'everyone' did digital, ie it was commonplace with suppliers but that Duos were the really unique albums. I agree. Aren't QBY digital albums really just a fancier, more expensive press-book? Again, that's not meant to be insulting, I'm just trying to add to the conversation. FWIW, I've stopped offering digital albums (other than mini copies) and will move to a Duo only offering for next season. No offence taken. I love our digital albums, and so do many of our To View More >>
Pre-wedding engagement shoots are fairly common these days - but Michelle and TJ Getz of Getzcreative go one step further and offer their clients post-wedding shoots too. These post-wedding "Creative Sessions" allow them to offer a distinctive and creative photography session without the pressures of the wedding day. For example, Michelle shot Lauren and Josh's wedding in October 2008 in South Carolina and the couple are working with Michelle to put together their Queensberry wedding album (they've nearly doubled their page count from 18 to 30 pages!). Photography by David Jay Seth Godin said recently , 'If you want to build a brand for the ages, you need to stand for something today, and tomorrow, and every day.' Among other things, we stand for quality, which is why the prints on our digital pages are split at the centreline, leaving a gap of about 2mm (about 1/16”). Some people might not like the look, but we can't compromise products designed to last for generations. Actually, there are two reasons for this: more flexibility as to what equipment you can print on, and because the fold in the print almost invariably discolours and/or cracks. To View More >>
Most of the albums we make are now printed and bound by us, but the guys from Front Room have chosen a road less traveled – Self-Mount Digital albums. There are pluses and minuses to DIY but (strictly from our own point of view) it sometimes feels… a little distant. We never get to see what goes into those books! But Front Room buy a lot of albums, so we thought we’d ask them to share. Recently they ordered a two volume 15x12 Rose Buckram set. Which is great for everyone: the clients obviously loved the images, and the studio's made a nice sale (and had 40% discount on the second cover). To View More >>
When your first ever album order catches Queensberry’s eye you’ve got to be pretty pleased with yourself. Especially when you designed it in a program you’ve never used before. Keryn Sweeney of Keryn Maree Photographer recently opened her studio in Auckland, New Zealand, and shot and designed this little gem as a studio sample for the beauty side of her business - an area she’s had plenty of experience in. Keryn recognises the benefits of offering her clients albums, but although she'd come from a well-established beauty and glamour studio she'd never used them before. When it came to To View More >>
