It's that time of year when we take stock, make resolutions and ask questions ... like how can we make this year a winner? Are there too many photographers? Why do we ask our competitors for advice? What can we learn from musicians? And the big one: How much are our images worth? Sadly, that's not just about how good they are or how much time we spend on them in post-production. Our latest client newsletter is below. Let us know what you think by leaving a comment here or emailing Ian directly. Cheers, Nigel How much are your images worth? Did you see the album we posted on our brand blog. Michael Soo photographed it himself and I stumbled across it. He photographed Christine and Ben's album when it arrived and, as well as blogging it, emailed them a few photos as a teaser. Ben wrote back within minutes saying, "We're on our way!" What a great, easy way to enhance the excitement and experience for his clients of seeing their album for the first time. Cheers, Nigel PS Good for business too, and we see more and more people putting juicy photography up for clients, their friends and prospects to see. To View More >>
In just a few days the Queensberry team will be heading off to the excitement and bedlam of WPPI and FOCUS. We love this opportunity to visit the States and the UK, meet old friends and make new ones ... and we hope you'll be among them. As you may know Apple chose Queensberry as one of "the world's finest bookmakers" to introduce their album design and ordering service in Aperture 3. Far from us to say why they chose us, so To View More >>
Andrew Gardner posted a thoughtful comment on a recent post of mine in which I talked about a member of the public asking if I would sell her a Queensberry album. He's concerned that Queensberry's aim to build their brand amongst brides might turn the albums into a commodity and encourage discounting (eg "click here for cheapest QBY albums!") His thoughts probably reflect the concerns of many photographers. He says, Obviously we can't be complacent and we should always be thinking of unique and original ways to make ourselves stand out. But I have a niggling feeling that what Queensberry thought To View More >>
I am writing this while wearing my studio owner's hat. We received this email today: Hi, I am looking to buy a queensberry album 15x15, black leather with names embossed on the front. I think you can only buy these albums through photographers and I was wondering if you sell them? Thanks, This email confirms two things for us That (1) amongst the general public there is an awareness/recognition of, and a demand for, the Queensberry brand, and (2) that Queensberry are not selling direct to the public. Both of these things validate our choice of Queensberry as our album supplier. Enough said Cheers, To View More >>
