Nigel and I heard about My Portland Photographer through our friend Randy Kepple. What a great idea, well executed: "A collaborative blog by Portland's finest wedding photographers".
On the home page a charming image and post by Craig Mitchelldyer caught my eye.
I followed a couple of links back to see if photographers were linking back to the blog from their own websites, but apparently no. I wonder why. You'd win some and lose some, but if you built the google juice together, wouldn't you win more than you lose?
Don't know, just wondering. Love it anyway.
Cheers, Ian

While we may not link to it often from our own blogs (though sometimes we do), we certainly do promote it through FaceBook and Twitter, as well as other marketing sources such as ads, vendor blogs, and magazine articles.

Hey guys... thanks for the kind words!
We've worked hard to make this collaborative blog a success and it's definitely been a learning process for everyone involved. Talk about herding cats!
The main reason we set this up was to educate the couples looking for wedding photographers. In our market it seems a new "digital" photographer pops up overnight with prices too good to be true and all your wedding photos burned to a DVD the next day. There is a lot of misinformation being spread around and inexperienced photographers muddying the waters, so to speak.
Every year there is a new wave of couples and every year, we deal with the same vendors over and over. We know, from working in the industry year after year who the best people are in our industry. Vendors with ethics, customer service and professional standards. In the interest of educating the public as to why they should hire a professional photographer, we all came together and started this project.
We don't link back and forth because according to the most updated Google SEO practices, that can actually hurt our efforts. We make sure to link to our own sites from the collaborative blog, we include links to all our vendors and we even included a date checker so anyone visiting the site can see which photographer is available for their date.
Each photographer is assigned a date for posting and this assures that everyone is posting each week. 4 new photos every business day and 20 new images each week. We've been doing this for over a year now! Consistency and creativity. We set out to PROVE to the public that this is why you should hire a professional photographer.
